CSC Community Involvement
Charlotte Street Computers is not only busy repairing Asheville's computers, the company is also involved in an array of philanthropic endeavors in the community. Jennifer Mayer, CEO of Charlotte Street Computers, has always had a vision of giving back to Asheville and began e-cycleme.com, CSC's computer recycling center, in 2008. E-cycleme.com takes in discarded computers and computer-related electronics and our technicians refurbish any machines that can still be put to good use. These refurbished machines are then donated to community members and organizations in need. To date, Charlotte Street Computers & e-cycleme.com have put over 400 computers into area community centers and the homes of students and families in Asheville and the surrounding area.
Last year, Ms. Mayer founded the Power On Community program in conjunction with Asheville Community Theatre. In this program, local non-profits are allotted a designated number of tickets to special Preview Performances at Asheville Community Theatre. The non-profit organizations can sell the tickets and will realize 100% of the profits from those sales. The primary objective of Power On Community is to provide a mechanism for non-profit organizations in our community to assist each other. The intent is that the organizations will provide this assistance as a part of their normal "day to day" business and that it will not require additional money or programs to be achieved.
Thus far, Power On Community has had 2 very successful runs, with non-profits All Souls Counseling Services, Asheville Greenworks, Children First, and Caring for Children benefitting. Additionally, 40 children from Pisgah View and Klondyke public housing were able to attend a special performance of Peter Pan thanks to the program. To find out more about how your non-profit organization might benefit from the Power On Community program, please see our web site, www.poweroncommunity.org.
CSC Annual Easter Event
Charlotte Street Computers partnered with the Asheville Tourists and WOXL for our 2nd annual Easter event to promote community outreach to the families of Asheville's public housing neighborhoods. The focus was on education through entertainment for both parents and children.
The event took place at McCormick field on Saturday, March 27th. Children participated in a traditional Easter egg hunt and had their pictures taken with the Easter Bunny. Additionally, career and education counselors from A-B Tech and the Asheville Housing Authority were on hand to provide information and advice to parents. Mayor Terry Bellamy was also in attendance to offer her support and officiate the egg hunt.
We would like to extend our gratitude to all who donated Easter baskets, candy, and Easter eggs, as well as the wonderful folks who provided treats and entertainment for the children. See you next year!
